Matchday 2: Nice and Rennes – that’s a tough one!
What a day! Despite the blazing sun and temperatures exceeding 30 degrees, the second day of the Festival d’Armor lived up to all expectations this Sunday, with the results completely shaking things up. Let’s start with a bombshell: SC Braga failed to finish in the top four of the league phase (by a single point) and, as a result, will not be playing in the semi-finals. So farewell to the prospect of a historic treble, following victories in 2025 and 2024.
The Crédit Agricole Challenge will be lifted tomorrow by Nice, Rennes, Saint-Étienne or Paris FC, who finished in the top four after a nail-biting finish. Special mention goes to OGC Nice, the clear leaders on 10 points level with Rennes, whilst Sainté and PFC have eight.
This second matchday has obviously left some teams disappointed: Stade Brestois, who have never won the tournament, are having a very poor run this year (12th out of 14 at the end of Matchday 2), as is PSG, bottom of the table with three defeats and a draw. Finally, RC Lens, leaders at the end of Matchday 1 and off to a promising start in the tournament, have lost all hope after suffering a defeat against Nice (2-0) and drawing with Paris FC (0-0). Le Havre AC, FC Lorient, Glasgow Rangers and Sénégal Armor FC also came close to qualifying for the semi-finals but failed to seize their chance.
Monday, the final day, will determine the final standings. The preliminary matches kick off at 10.00 am, with the semi-finals between OGC Nice and Paris FC at 2.15 pm and Stade Rennais and Saint-Étienne at 3.05 pm. The final will start at 5.45 pm.
In the U15 Paysages d’Iroise tournament, the quarter-finalists are already known: which of Bréquigny, Saint-Renan, Verson, Concarneau, US Montagnarde, Laval, Red Star or Stade Brestois will go all the way? Find out tomorrow from 10 am in Plougonvelin.
